9 day itinerary
Day 1: Vagar
After a 13 hour long flight from Canada to the Faroe Islands, I met up with Makito and Lauren at the airport. and we picked up our car rental from Faris Car Rental. The cost of using the tunnels is 100 DKK per tunnel, but you can also buy a pass that allows you to use all tunnels as much as you want for 300 DKK.
Múlafossur Waterfall
The first place we’ve explored was the Múlafossur Waterfall during sunset, which was a short drive away from the airport.
Airbnb: Turf House
We arrived and check-in at the Turf House Airbnb in Sandavagur for the two nights. There is a Pizza shop and Gas Station a few minutes away from the Airbnb. Faroe Islands is taxed at a rate of 25% on most goods and services.
Be careful to not go over 250 watt when using the each electrical outlet at the house in Faroe Islands. Anything over can shut the whole house electrical system.
day 2:
Hike to Sørvágsvatn
The hike to the cliff of Sørvágsvatn was a 1-hour round trip. It’s important to wear proper hiking boots as some hiking trails are very muddy. The views all around us was orange-reddish, making It look like the planet Mars. When taking photos on the cliff, It was super important to keep a safe distance away from the edge of a sea cliff for safety. Drones is not permitted in this area as planes can be seen flying in and out of the airport of the island.
Day 3: Streymoy
We got to see a beautiful golden sunset with purple skies at this curvy road in Norðradalur. The weather in Faroe can change every 10 minutes so we always have to be ready to take the shot.
Day 4: Suduroy
We took a 2 hour ferry from Torshavn to Suduroy .The first ferry departure is at 8:45am. You can buy your ticket on board the ferry at a kiosk on Deck 5 on your way back to Tórshavn – don’t forget to hold onto your ticket as you will be asked for it when it is time to disembark the ferry. It cost $37 USD to bring car on ferry and $13 USD ferry ticket for each adult. The first return ferry from Suduroy to Torshavn is at 6:00pm. With limited amount time to explore, we’ve went to Spinarnir, Benisvord, Eggjarnar, Sandvik.
Day 5: Kalsoy, Klaksvik
We stayed at Eysturland Lodge when we were exploring Klaksvik.
Ferry to Syðradalur (Kalsoy)
On day 5, We took the ferry from Klaksvík to Syðradalur at 8am. The ferry ride takes about 20 minutes, and the drive from Syðradalur to Trøllanes is 20 min.
Hike to kallur lighthouse
Our tour guide, Jóhannus, who is one of the 12 people living in the village of Trøllanes , showed us the way to the lighthouse that his great grandfather helped build. Without him, we would have got lost trying to find this lighthouse on our own. It cost $458 DDK per person, which was around $100 in Canadian Dollar for the tour.

Hike to Mount Klakkur
One of the tourists at the parking lot told us that it would take 15 minutes to hike up to Mount Klakkur. It turned out to be a 35-40 minute hike. Although it took some time, the breaks and pauses we took gave us a chance to stop and take in the views around us. And the views on our way to the top was just as breathtaking as the view from the very top of the mountain. We stayed at Eysturland Lodge for the night in Klaksvík.
Day 6: Vidoy
Initially, our plan was to hike up a mountain in Vidoy, but we decided to take it easy since we were physically exhuasted from hiking up two mountains on day 5. We explored Vidoy and the abandoned village of Múli. Vidoy was the most eastern part of the island that we’ve explored.
Fjord Cottage
We were constantly moving from different places to stay since we were on a road trip. Staying at Fjord Cottage was nice because we made plans to explore Eysturoy, which was not far from this cottage.
Day 7:
Village of Gjogv
As we make our way back west on our roadtrip, we’ve explored the village of Gjogv, and the remote, photogenic, alien-looking cabin in Eysturoy.
Hike to Funningur mountain
After seeing the two cabins, we headed to Funningur to hike up a mountain. It took us about 40 minutes to get to the top since we were hiking up on snowy hill. When we got to the top of the mountain, it started snowing, and the fogs started to clutter the view of the islands. As blue hour was approaching, we decided to head back down instead of waiting for the fog to clear.
Day 8:
Fossa Water Fall
We explored Fossa Waterfall and Saksun on our second last day.
sakun
Hotel Hafnia
We stayed at Hotel Hafnia when we were exploring places near Torshavn.
Day 9: Vagar, Múlafossur Waterfall
On our last day we decided to explore the famous Múlafossur Waterfall for the second time before heading to the airport to catch our flight home.
Challenges of flying from Canada to Faroe Islands
Flying from Canada to Faroe Islands was a challenge for me. I’ve booked the cheapest flight ticket on www.kiwi.com, which turned out to be a 4 connecting flight from Toronto to Faroe Islands - I would not recommend booking a 4 connecting flight ticket as it is physically draining. There’s a two connecting flight from Toronto to Iceland, and Iceland to Faroe Islands, but the price is much higher.
